On Saturday, September 26th, 2020 at 3:17 AM Waterloo Police responded to a shots fired report in the area of 5th and South.   Officers arrived on the scene and determined that the initial shooting occurred inside 501 W. 4th Street Waterloo.   Officers immediately worked to secure the scene and rendered aide to injured parties as needed, until Waterloo Fire Rescue arrived.   Preliminary investigation has determined at least 12 people were injured, 8 of those suffering from gunshot wounds, one of which has died..   The remaining injuries were from debris, glass and injuries that occurred as people fled the scene.  

Many of the injured parties were taken to area hospitals where they are receiving treatment for a variety of injuries, at least two of the victims are in critical condition at this time.   Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims and their families.  

This remains an active ongoing investigation and we ask anyone with information regarding this incident contact the Waterloo Police Department.

A press conference will be held in Waterloo City Hall, 715 Mulberry Street, Waterloo Iowa at 10:30 AM with Mayor Hart and Chief Joel Fitzgerald.
