On Monday, May 9, 2022, Waterloo Police Officers received a report of shooting at 263 Western Avenue. Upon their arrival, Officers located a victim, later identified as Ashley Cronan, suffering from a non-life threating gunshot wound to the leg. Waterloo Fire arrived and transported Cronan to Allen hospital for treatment. Responding officers in the area also located a Roy Morrel Stewart, age 38, near the scene. Stewart was found to be also suffering from a gunshot wound to his hand and was transported to the Allen Hospital.
Dr. Joel Fitzgerald, Waterloo Police Chief, released the following, “Detectives investigating the shooting interviewed several witnesses confirming that Stewart sustained the gunshot wound pursuant to a struggle he had with bystanders. After receiving medical treatment at the hospital, WPD officers took him into custody for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and related charges. This is yet another example of an arrest of a felon who should have never had a firearm in their possession causing reckless injuries.”
A Criminal Charge/Warrant is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
