On Monday, April 6, 2009 around 1 p.m., Waterloo Police officers and Waterloo Fire Rescue firefighters responded to the intersection of Highway 218 and Shaulis Road on the report of a vehicle crash.  Once on scene officers learned that a semi tractor-trailer rig was southbound on Highway 218 and broadsided a passenger car that was eastbound on Shaulis Road.  The driver, who was the only occupant of the semi, was not injured.

The driver of the passenger car was transported to Covenant Medical Center and then airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.  The driver of the passenger car, who was the only occupant of the car, is listed in critical condition.

Names of the drivers and any other information related to this crash will not be released at this time.  This investigation is ongoing.
