Waterloo Police Charge Youth With Second Robbery
On Tuesday, March 3, 2009 Waterloo Police charged 16-year-old Martavis Lee Smith of 409 Independence Avenue with robbery in the first degree for robbing the Kum & Go convenience store at 1976 Franklin Street shortly after 4:00 a.m. that morning.
During that investigation Smith admitted to the January 28, 2009 robbery of the Kwik Stop convenience store at 1761 Independence Avenue. Shortly after 8:00 p.m. on January 28th two black male suspects entered the Kwik Stop store brandishing handguns, demanding money. During this robbery one of the suspects fired a round from his gun, but no one was injured. The suspects then fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money.
On Wednesday, March 4, 2009 Waterloo Police charged Smith with a second count of robbery in the first degree for the Kwik Stop convenience store robbery. Smith remains in custody at the Black Hawk County Jail without bond.
Waterloo Police continue their investigation into these incidents. Smith's photo will not be released at this time.
